Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry is located at the Biocentre of the University of Wuerzburg. The central aim of the research performed in our Department is to understand fundamental cellular processes at the molecular level and to elucidate their malfunction in human disease. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of our research projects, people with a background in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Medicine, Pharmacy and Biology have the opportunity to join us. At present, the Department hosts six independent research units that work on the following topics:

Cellular Protein Degradation (A. Buchberger)

Cryo-Electron Microscopy (B. Boettcher)

Genome Stability (K. Paeschke)

(please note: the Paeschke Group has moved to Groningen, the Netherlands)

Macromolecular Crystallography (C. Grimm/U. Fischer)

Macromolecular Machines (U. Fischer)

Molecular Oncology (A. Szalay)
